Описание:

Cell D-shaped to globular (but sometimes distorted by ingested food), 3–6 µm long, mostly 4–5 µm, compressed laterally. Two flagella emerging subapically from the ventral face; the anterior (active and hairy) flagellum is about 5–8 µm long, in attached cells is usually directed perpendicularly from the ventral face, but may point slightly to the front or side. This flagellum beats with an asymmetric envelope (excursion more exaggerated near base) and drawing water towards the ventral side. This flagellum projects in front of swimming cells, pulling the cell into more of a drop shape. The recurrent flagellum is about 5 µm long. It inserts to the fight of the hairy flagellum, and in feeding cells extends backwards then usually curves to the left passing first in a shallow groove on the left face of the body. In this orientation it lies in a plane almost at fight angles to the other flagellum. The tip of the recurrent flagellum is usually attached to a detrital particle or other surface so that the hairy flagellum projects parallel to the substratum. When swimming, the attachment flagellum trails loosely behind the cell. (по: Larsen, Patterson, 1990)
